There was a sense of occasion to superstar violinist Joshua Bell’s sold-out recital Sunday at Hill Auditorium under University Musical Society auspices. But Bell entered the hall a violinist in fiddler’s garb – soft smile, dark blue shirt, black vest, black pants – demeanor and clothing to put both himself and his audience wonderfully at ease.
So it was simple to settle down and focus on the music more than the man. Indeed, one of the glories of Bell’s inviting Sunday recital, performed with pianist Sam Haywood, was how the music bloomed as man and instrument seemed to disappear.
